Help Young Playwrights' Theater

Throughout D.C. Public Schools (D.C.P.S.), YPT works with students who are ethnically diverse and chronically underserved. More than one-third speak English as a second language. More than two-thirds live at or near the national poverty level. More than half have never seen a professional theatrical production before becoming involved with YPT. Young Playwrights’ Theater is providing thousands of underserved youth with an interactive holistic approach to learning, while giving many of them their only arts programming free of charge.

Please help Young Playwrights’ Theater continue to deliver its award-winning curriculum to students throughout the Greater Washington area. Your donation will help provide tickets and transportation for our young emerging playwrights to see professional theater productions, offset expenses for play productions, and provide stipends for the theater professionals - directors, dramaturges, actors, and playwrights - who teach our students and take their words from the page to the stage. You can even set up your credit card to make a monthly deposit to YPT. It only takes a few minutes and you will be doing something wonderful for D.C. students thorughout the year, without ever having to write a check!

What kind of gift will you give to our young playwrights? Let the giving levels below help you decide:

Courage - $50
Provides tickets for two students to see a professional theater performance as part of the In-School Playwriting Program. Donors at this level will receive a letter of thanks and two tickets to the annual Express Tour Showcase.

Imagination - $100
Sponsors a professional actor for one day in the classroom. This level receives all of the above, plus a YPT baseball cap.

Creativity - $250
Supports one professional playwrights’ workshop in the classroom. This level receives all of the above, plus a signed copy of one student-written play.

Insight - $500
Underwrites one New Writers Now! performance. This level receives all of the above, plus a chance to meet and talk with our participating students after the reading of their work.

Inspiration - $1,000
Provides six In-School Playwriting workshops to D.C. Public School students. Donors at this level receive all of the above, plus a visit to a classroom to see the YPT In-School Playwriting Program in action and meet some of our young playwrights.

Join the Circle of Friends

Members of YPT’s Circle of Friends are honored as individuals or families whose extraordinary generosity helps YPT continue to bring the best in arts education to the underserved young people of Washington, DC. Joining the Circle of Friends gains you access to YPT In-School workshops, rehearsals and special, invitation-only performances. You will also gain special opportunities to meet and work with our young playwrights, as your support helps them to realize that their voices count!

$1,000 can underwrite two Express Tour performances or provide students with six In-School Playwriting workshops;
$5,000 provides two classrooms with teaching artists for an entire semester of the In-School Playwriting Program;
$10,000 provides two classrooms with teaching artists for an entire semester of the In-School Playwriting Program and underwrites ten performances of the Express Tour, potentially providing 1,000 people with their first theatrical experience.

Volunteer

YPT relies on an army of volunteers to help us bring the best in arts education to students throughout DC. You can volunteer your time to help out in the office with communications, administration or production, or on specific projects like our New Play Festival or special performance events.
